Police in Nagoya said Friday they have arrested a man for dumping the body of his deceased mother.
The man, who has been identified as 44-year-old Yuji Shibata, was arrested Thursday after it was revealed that in May of last year, he had placed his mother’s corpse in a duvet vacuum storage bag and hidden it in their home, TV Asahi reported.
According to police, the body was found by some of the woman’s relatives, with the assistance of officers. At the time of the discovery, police say Shibata had gone to another room and slashed both of his wrists. Police say he lost consciousness at the scene, but his injuries are not life-threatening, TV Asahi reported.
Police say that Shibata has confessed to illegally dumping his mother’s body and that an investigation is to be carried out into the circumstances surrounding her death.
